Day 6

Day Six July 11

We didn't really have a set plan for today. We spent time outside on the verandah drinking coffee (water for me) and chatting with family. Quentin and Tatum had gone to the Rolling Pin and picked up some donuts for breakfast. They were so delcious! We could have sat on the verandah all day.

IMG_2986.jpg
IMG_2988.jpg

Antonio was getting bored and Bethany hooked him up big time! She let him paint on her easel with a real canvas. She was so sweet to him the whole time.

Luckily, Tatum was keeping us on track and we finally all got around to go to the beach. We went to this amazing little restaurant on the beach. I had shrimp tacos. They were huge! Definitely should have shared with Quentin. He got a yummy seafood pasta. Halie got the best meal, it wasn't even on the menu. She asked if she could get pasta with shrimp. It was served with this delicious super garlicky alfredo sauce. We were sad that we got too full to finish it all. Antonio had popcorn shrimp, which I had to call fried shrimp because he didn't want popcorn!

IMG_2992.jpg
IMG_2991.jpg

After we ate, we went down on the beach for awhile. Bethany bought Antonio a bucket and shovel and he had a great time playing in the sand and surf. He was pretty mad at me for not bringing his swimsuit. The water was cold though, and I definitely didn't want to get in with him. I enjoyed just sitting on the hot sand.

We headed down the beach after a while to a small craft fair. Then walked to the downtown area to a Ben & Jerry's shop. It was so yummy!

IMG_3018.jpg
IMG_3019.jpg
IMG_3020.jpg

Then Halie wanted to go shopping. I was getting really tired by that point from all the walking (darn pregnant belly wearing me out), so Halie stayed with Tatum, Teaghan, and Bethany while Quentin, Antonio, Rick and I headed back to the house. Rick took us on a little tour of the area they live in and we saw some gorgeous houses. One had it's own golf course! Then he took us up the hill on part of their 20 acres of land. It was a gorgeous view. If they need a maid to live with them, I'd happily volunteer!

When we got back to the house, Quentin entertained Antonio while I took a nap. When everyone else got back we just sat around talking. I played some pool with Antonio and Teaghan. Rick made prime rib sandwiches that were to die for. We ate on the verandah and wished we weren't leaving the next day.

Antonio's favorite part of their house was probably when Bethany let him take a bubble bath in her huge tub. The bubbles were taller than him! Halie and Teaghan came in and decided they needed to put their feet in. After a bit, Antonio shooed them out saying hello, I'm naked in here!!!!

Once again, Antonio and I headed off to bed while Quentin stayed up to visit. Halie and Teaghan hung out on the verandah forever talking. I asked her what they were talking about the next day and she told me he was teaching her stuff, like how airplanes fly. Teaghan has a photographic memory. He is 13 and already taking college level courses. He should graduate high school and college at the same time.

Day 5

Day Five July 10

We got up early to eat breakfast and pack the car.

IMG_2896.jpg

We wanted to get to Universal early today so we could ride the rides that had such long lines yesterday. When we arrived we were a bit later than expected, so we parked in valet. It was definitely worth it and saved us a ton of time looping around the parking garage.

We went straight to the Lower Lot to get in line for Jurassic Park which Antonio was really looking forward to. I was happy to see that the rides didn't open when the park did, so we got there before they even let people get in the queue. There are two lots at Universal Studios Hollywood. The upper lot where pretty much everything is, and the lower lot where Jurassic Park, Transformers, and The Mummy are. They are separated by a series of escalators. It takes a while to get down to the lower lot and back up. It’s best to tackle the lower lot in one shot and not go back down there.

IMG_2897.jpg

The kids went and saw the talking raptor while we saved spots in line. I don’t know where the pictures of this are though. I’m so sad. I think Halie may have taken them on her phone, but she hasn’t sent them to me.

IMG_2898.jpg

When we were going through the line, they were giving out Jelly Belly jellybeans. When the girls saw my Hogwarts dress they loved it and noticed Antonio's birthday button that we had brought from last year's Disney World trip. A few minutes later, one of the girls caught up to us and gave Antonio 3 priority passes that would get 6 people to the front of any line. Sweet!

IMG_2899.jpg
IMG_2900.jpg

We didn't have to wait long to get on the ride.

IMG_2901.jpg

We were nervous about getting wet, but didn't get too wet at all. Antonio didn't like it because the drop made his stomach hurt.

IMG_5159.jpg
IMG_5160.jpg

IMG_5172.jpg
IMG_5174.jpg
IMG_5175.jpg
IMG_5176.jpg

Afterwards, Halie and Quentin went on The Mummy, while Antonio and I went to the dinosaur play area which was totally lame so we left and went to the gift shop. He got a giant sucker with a dinosaur toy on it and a keychain for his new collection.

IMG_5179.jpg
IMG_2902.jpg
IMG_2903.jpg
IMG_2904.jpg
IMG_2905.jpg

Then we went to sit on the curb and wait for Halie and Quentin. I was looking around and noticed a transformer down the street doing meet and greets. Antonio and I went and got in line. We were really lucky that Optimus Prime and Bumblebee came out. When we got up there, they made a big deal out of Antonio's birthday. Bumblebee played a birthday song and Optimus Prime said his muscles looked like he was older than 6.

IMG_2906.jpg
IMG_2907.jpg
IMG_2908.jpg
IMG_2909.jpg
IMG_2911.jpg
IMG_2912.jpg
IMG_5184.jpg

Halie and Q caught up with us and we went to ride Transformers. We used one of our priority passes. We looked for two people to bring with us since you could use it for 6, but couldn't find anyone. Q went and looked for some friends from Sweden they had met in The Mummy line, but they were nowhere to be found. Everyone really enjoyed the ride.

IMG_2913.jpg

We headed back up to the upper lot after that. Ignore my double chin in this picture! Bad angle!

IMG_2914.jpg

Quentin’s feelings on our surprise pregnancy. Rude!

IMG_2917.jpg

We met Beetlejuice. Antonio was scared.

IMG_2918.jpg
IMG_2919.jpg
IMG_2920.jpg

Then we went to do Waterworld. We found a good place in the line, where we were in the shade and could sit on one of the concrete things holding the poles. Today I remembered to bring snacks, so there wasn't a meltdown from Antonio over the long line. We all had some crackers and some water while we waited. The show was really cool and worth the wait. It was kind of hard to see the preshow, but you could see the real show. You don't want to be in the front, unless you want to get soaking wet.

IMG_2921.jpg
IMG_2922.jpg

After the show, we had to find Curious George. He is Antonio's favorite character right now. He watches the show all the time on Netflix. He was so excited!

IMG_2929.jpg
IMG_2930.jpg
IMG_2931.jpg
IMG_2932.jpg
IMG_2933.jpg
IMG_2934.jpg

Then we met Woody Woodpecker and his girlfriend. Not that the kids had any idea who they were.

IMG_2936.jpg
IMG_2937.jpg

We found Scooby Doo again and he didn't run off. His line was chaos. The worker trying to control the line was visibly upset that she didn't know how to make a line. It was weird.

IMG_2940.jpg
IMG_2941.jpg
IMG_2942.jpg

We found a candy store with Quentin's new favorite cereal. It only has marshmallows! Halie bought a giant gummy worm.

IMG_2943.jpg

Then we saw the guy who was posing on the fountain earlier as a statue. Very cool.

IMG_2944.jpg
IMG_2945.jpg

Back to Simpson's land to get some ice cream from Phineas Q. Butterfats. It was okay. Nothing to write home about. You were able to pick a swirl flavor. Q got chocolate, Antonio and I shared a strawberry. The princess insisted she have Dippin Dots. I sent her with some money to go find some.

IMG_2946.jpg
IMG_2949.jpg

Did I mention how much we love the Simpson's area?

IMG_2951.jpg
While he sat on this box outside of Cletus’ Chicken Shack, it was clucking at him.

IMG_2960.jpg

It’s Krusty!

IMG_2961.jpg
IMG_2962.jpg

Antonio wanted to use his priority pass to ride the Simpson's ride again, so that's what we did next.

IMG_2963.jpg
IMG_2965.jpg

Then we used the last one to ride the Backlot Tour again. Actually we thought it was the last one! Quentin found his Swedish friends and they gave him another pass! Woot woot! We rode the ride, then headed back up. The ride was different this time. They were filming a live show for HGTV. We didn't see Frankenstein, but we did see the Back to the Future area. Super cool!

IMG_2966.jpg
IMG_2967.jpg

We missed Marilyn again!

IMG_2969.jpg

Halie was excited to meet Shaggy!

IMG_2970.jpg

We used our super bonus priority pass to ride the Minion ride again. Then Antonio wanted to try this game. He won a purple minion.

IMG_2971.jpg
IMG_2972.jpg
IMG_2973.jpg

We met the Minion girls. Right as we got to the front, one of them left. This lady went nuts on the worker about her kids waiting in line and the character leaving. I felt bad for the worker.

IMG_2974.jpg
IMG_2975.jpg

At some point we also saw the Special Effects Show. It was cool. Antonio brought it up a week later when he was spanking his butt and saying this is for the ladies. I didn't know what he was talking about. Then he said, the show with the guy that we all cheered for him to be in the show. He's so funny, the stuff he remembers.

Next we were heading to Quentin's family's house in Somis, California, but we stopped to get a quick bite to eat at In & Out. It was just as delicious as I'd heard! We split two burgers and an order of fries, then headed towards Somis.

The drive there was beautiful. Full of agriculture. As we got closer to the area they live we started seeing orange and lemon groves. We talked about how you could just jump out and pick an orange on your way to work for breakfast.

We finally arrived at Solano Verde Ranch in Somis. What a gorgeous place to live! Quentin's uncle (his dad's brother) is one of the top corporate lawyers in the country. His wife, has done it all. Authored a children's book, designed a children's clothing line, designs all kinds of artwork that is feature on notecards, napkins, etc, worked on movies such as Independence Day and Jingle all the Way, had a jewelry line, and more. She is amazing and so sweet! They have two wonderful children, a 17 year old girl who was great with Antonio and a 13 year old boy who tolerated Antonio in small doses.

When we arrived they fed us a delicious dinner of homemade meatball subs, delicious salad, corn on the cob, and some type of delicious cookie thing with ice cream on it.

After we ate, Halie, Antonio and I all went to bed. Quentin stayed up a while to visit. We got a great night's sleep on the super comfy bed! Halie even had her own room. She was so happy!

Griswold Style Family Vacation 2015 5

Day 4

sunny

Day Four July 9

I think we left Vegas by 10 am. We drove to Pasadena, California to our next hotel.

Inspection station. Don’t see these in Kansas.

IMG_5145.jpg

Antonio watched A Goofy Movie again on the way. This was his favorite movie on this trip. He watched it at least ten times. His favorite part was the “leaning tower of cheeza.”

IMG_5146.jpg
IMG_5148.jpg

We stayed at the Residence Inn Pasadena Arcadia. It was a very nice hotel minus two glitches. When we arrived according to our GPS directions we wound up at a locked gate. We drove back and forth a few times to read the signs which basically said no parking, locked. Ummmm....weird. We decided to call the hotel and they told us to come in on a different street. Seems like it would be a good idea to put a sign that says that on the locked gate. Other glitch coming up!

Check in went fine and the lady was very nice and gave Quentin some free Marriott points because of the gate situation. She also told him he could pick any item from the pantry for free. Our room was as far as possible from the lobby, but was super nice. Halie claimed the pull out couch bed for herself and Antonio immediately started whining that he wanted that bed. OMG, get me out of this room and to the park.

We dumped off our stuff and headed to Universal Studios Hollywood.

IMG_5150.jpg

Traffic wasn't too horrible and we got there by about 2:45. We paid the expensive parking fee. At 3:00 the price would go down, but they wouldn't budge as it was figured by computer. Lame. We got in the parking garage which should have been paved in gold for the price we paid, and looked for a spot. And looked. And looked. It probably took us 15 minutes of looping around to finally find a spot.

Antonio was excited to park in the Jurassic Park area.

IMG_5152.jpg

The City Walk was really cool looking and we found a Mexican restaurant to eat at that evening.

IMG_2698.jpg
IMG_2699.jpg
IMG_2700.jpg

When we got up to the turnstiles, our park passes wouldn't work because our printer printed them in all red. They typed it in and we were good to go! This is relevant because of lame-o Legoland later in the trip.

IMG_2703.jpg

Right when we walked in, I tried to find out if they had a photopass option like Universal Orlando. Nobody I asked seem to understand what I was talking about. Even the person at the photo area. Whatevs.

There were a ton of characters right at the main entrance. Quentin and I were excited to see Doc Brown!

IMG_2704.jpg

The kids met Frankenstein, Spongebob and Betty Boop.
IMG_2705.jpg
IMG_2706.jpg
IMG_2707.jpg
IMG_2708.jpg
IMG_2709.jpg

Scooby Doo walked off as we got to him. We followed him, then lost him in the crowd. They don't have orderly lines like Disney World. It's kind of a free for all.

Halie the movie star!

IMG_2710.jpg

We decided to wait in the Despicable Me line even though the wait was a bit long. Antonio had fun ringing the doorbells which made the characters talk inside the house. The kids met the characters, then we waited for the ride. It was about 10 minutes faster than the listed wait time. Quentin and I missed our express pass from Universal Orlando that we got for staying on property.

IMG_2723.jpg

Finally to the front!

IMG_2724.jpg
IMG_2725.jpg

It's so fluffy I could die!

IMG_2726.jpg

Antonio, Halie and I rode a Minion themed Dumbo style ride next. It was about a ten minute wait. The weather was beautiful by that point so I didn't mind waiting outside.

IMG_2727.jpg
IMG_2728.jpg
IMG_2730.jpg
IMG_2731.jpg
IMG_2733.jpg
IMG_2734.jpg
IMG_2735.jpg

Next to the ride was a huge Minion water play area. Antonio didn't want to get wet. He said we should bring his swimsuit the next day so he could play. I purposely forgot to bring it the next day. Mean mommy.

IMG_2732.jpg

Next, we went to the Shrek ride. You could see the Wizarding World of Harry Potter being built behind it.

IMG_2737.jpg
IMG_2738.jpg

Antonio made his baby sister a bracelet out of grass or leaves or something while we waited.

IMG_5153.jpg
IMG_5154.jpg

Antonio was a total whiner in this line. It was too long, he was hungry (I forgot to bring any snacks, epic fail!), his feet hurt, etc. I was getting ready to pull him out of line, find a bathroom, and deliver a beating, when the line finally moved and we got inside. It was a cute show, and we all enjoyed it.

IMG_2739.jpg

We headed to the Simpson's area afterwards. Antonio pointed out the billboard advertising the game I play on the iPad.

IMG_2740.jpg

Quentin and I love Simpsons, so of course we love this area!

IMG_2741.jpg
IMG_2742.jpg

IMG_2745.jpg
IMG_2746.jpg
IMG_2747.jpg
IMG_2750.jpg
IMG_2754.jpg
IMG_2755.jpg

Halie was mad that she got lukewarm on the love machine and Antonio got Cassanova.

IMG_2748.jpg
IMG_2749.jpg

The Simpsons!

IMG_2751.jpg

Antonio was dying to play some carnival games, so we stopped and did that. They had a card you could buy for like $20 dollars and play all of the games listed. Except I realized later, you could play all but one. Weird. Why have 9 games listed if you can only play 8.

IMG_2752.jpg
IMG_2757.jpg
IMG_2758.jpg

This was sitting by one of the games.

IMG_2753.jpg

He won a Bart Simpson doll and a Krusty doll.

IMG_2759.jpg
IMG_2760.jpg
IMG_2763.jpg

Quentin got a Duff beer.

IMG_2761.jpg
IMG_2762.jpg

Halie played a basketball game and was extremely mad when she lost. I told her the rims are bent and it's hard to win. She didn't want to give up.

IMG_2764.jpg
IMG_2765.jpg

We were all hungry by now, so the kids and I went to Cletu' Chicken Shack and got a meal to share. Quentin went to get donuts from Lard Lad and came back with donuts and bonus tacos from the Bumblebee Man's taco truck! All of the food was delicious. There was a sauce that came with the tacos that was crazy hot and definitely needs to be avoided!

IMG_2766.jpg
IMG_2767.jpg
IMG_2769.jpg
IMG_2770.jpg

More cute Simpson’s stuff!

IMG_2772.jpg
IMG_2773.jpg
IMG_2774.jpg

Time for Halie to get her license.

IMG_2775.jpg
IMG_2776.jpg

After we ate, we decided to go to the Backlot tour. The wait time was under an hour for the first time since we got there. We had read online that due to the new Fast & Furious part, the lines get crazy and you should go first thing in the morning. I was hoping we could get it out of the way, and do other rides in the morning.

The view going to the Backlot Tour was beautiful. California is definitely a beautiful state.

IMG_2777.jpg
IMG_2779.jpg

When we got to the bottom of the escalator, we just missed Marilyn Monroe. Halie was sad.

IMG_2778.jpg
IMG_2780.jpg
IMG_2781.jpg

The wait in line was pretty long and boring, but they had tvs showing movie clips. We also discussed all of the movie posters for movies that Quentin had seen and none of the rest of us had.

IMG_2782.jpg

Finally we were on the ride!

IMG_2783.jpg
IMG_2784.jpg
IMG_2786.jpg

Although, you can't get Halie to put her phone down for anything.

Universal Studios Fire Station.

IMG_2788.jpg

This part was cool, it had a bunch of movie posters with the year listed, dating clear back from the beginning of Universal Studios.

Stage 12 is where they film The Voice.

IMG_2792.jpg

IMG_2799.jpg
IMG_2801.jpg

This bungalow used to be Alfred Hitchcock's.

IMG_2802.jpg

Here we are heading in to Skull Island from King Kong. It was a cool 4-D show that Antonio loved. You could see King Kong fighting a T-Rex.

IMG_2807.jpg

IMG_2831.jpg

It's Jaws!

IMG_2832.jpg

This was another set where Frankenstein was wandering around.

IMG_2834.jpg
IMG_2835.jpg
IMG_2836.jpg
IMG_2837.jpg

This was a set from a "current film" and it broke down and we were trapped in a subway disaster.

IMG_2838.jpg

Antonio got nervous!

IMG_2839.jpg
IMG_2841.jpg

IMG_2872.jpg

This cabin has been used in several films and tv shows.

IMG_2874.jpg

On her phone again!

IMG_2876.jpg

We got backed up for quite a while at the Fast & Furious area. Apparently it had broken down earlier and some people's tour missed it, so they were going back through. It was super cool though!

More pretty views.

IMG_2878.jpg
IMG_2880.jpg

Just like Papa’s except with a sidecar.

IMG_2881.jpg
IMG_2882.jpg

We had to go back over to the Minion area to use our carnival game card. Unfortunately, we didn't win.
IMG_2883.jpg
IMG_2884.jpg

One more Simpson’s game.

IMG_2885.jpg

Then, Halie had to go back to the basketball game and try again. This time she won!

IMG_2889.jpg

Then we rode the Simpsons ride, right before the park closed.

IMG_2888.jpg
IMG_2886.jpg

Antonio had to try on the silly shark hat on the way out.

IMG_2890.jpg
IMG_2892.jpg

He made sissy try it on too.

IMG_2891.jpg

After we left, we went to City Walk and ate at the Mexican restaurant we had spotted earlier. We were able to be seated right away. The service was bad. The food was worse. Nothing about that place was good.

IMG_2893.jpg

Both kids fell asleep in the car on the way back to the hotel.

IMG_2894.jpg
IMG_2895.jpg

This is where the other glitch with our hotel came up. There was no parking when we got back. NONE! We parked about 6 buildings away from ours. It was pretty frustrating.

Day 2

sunny 100 °F

Day Three July 8

Antonio was up bright and early like usual. We had a hard time waking Princess Halie and getting her to get ready for the day. My main goal was to eat at Le Village buffet at the Paris hotel. I had been several times before and it was so good.

IMG_2573.jpg
IMG_6764.jpg
v5.jpg

We decided to take the monorail.

IMG_2574.jpg
v4.jpg

We bought 24 hour passes and headed to Paris.

IMG_2575.jpg
IMG_2578.jpg
IMG_2579.jpg

The buffet line was long. The kids looked at stores while we waited.

IMG_2580.jpg

We were seated in a little room off to the side. Halie and I were disappointed to not be able to see all the prettiness of the restaurant. The food was definitely not as good as last time I was there. The best thing were the crepes. I had banana and caramel. Quentin and Halie both had nutella and banana. Antonio mostly enjoyed strawberries dipped in sugar.

Antonio had to spin on every single lamppost on the way out.

IMG_2581.jpg

After breakfast, we walked over to the Bellagio to see the botanical gardens. It was beautiful! I had never been there, but Quentin had. He said they change it each season. It had a really cool mermaid/underwater theme for the summer.

The boys walk so fast they had time to sit down and play on their phones while Halie and I meandered along. Halie wore really uncomfortable sandals that day. Silly girl. My feet were just always tired.

IMG_2601.jpg

We walked from the Bellagio to Ceasar's Palace. This was when we remembered how very far it is to walk from place to place in Vegas. There was a lot of complaining from the kids.

The kids resting while Q took a potty break.

IMG_2602.jpg

Halie found a store she wanted to shop in so Antonio and I sat down to wait. One thing I noticed is there are NO benches in Vegas. The only place to sit in Vegas is at the slot machines or in bars. Neither of those places allowed the kids. There was a lot of sitting on the ground today.

IMG_6765.jpg
IMG_2604.jpg
IMG_2605.jpg

Finally the Princess was done shopping without even buying anything.

IMG_2606.jpg

Halie went shopping at the Nike store while Antonio enjoyed the aquarium. We all watched the Posiedon show.

On the way out of the Bellagio, Halie went back to the store from earlier to shop some more. That girl loved shopping in Vegas.

Because we are a glutton for punishment and wanted to hear the kids complain even more, we walked over to the Flamingo to see the flamingos. The kids got to hold some macaws while we were there. You were supposed to buy the picture and no personal photography. I sent Quentin across the way, and he took some pictures on the sly. We are very sneaky!

Finally, we found some actual flamingos!

IMG_2636.jpg

And some turtles!

IMG_2637.jpg

It was so hot outside at the Flamingo, the big pregnant mommy needed a break. Quentin sat with the kids while I played some slots for about 10 minutes. Antonio hanging on me, starts to wear me out after a while. Hanging on me in the 100 degree heat, wears on me even faster.

We walked through Margaritaville which always makes Quentin and I laugh because my parents always call it by its full name “Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville.”

IMG_5125.jpg
IMG_5126.jpg
IMG_5127.jpg
IMG_5129.jpg

Next up was M&Ms World! I love this place and so did Antonio! Halie hated it. Quentin tolerated it. Halie really hated anything except when she was shopping for herself. However she still says Vegas was her favorite part of the whole trip.

IMG_2638.jpg
IMG_2639.jpg
IMG_2640.jpg

We did some shopping and Antonio bought some M&Ms from the colorful display.

IMG_2641.jpg

Then we all watched the 3-D movie. It was cute as always. I remember there used to be a walkthrough area where it had buffing things like you were an M&M. That wasn't there anymore.

IMG_2643.jpg

Nice view of New York New York from M&M World.

IMG_2644.jpg

I thought we were leaving after that, then Antonio kept saying there was something on the 3rd floor he really wanted to do. Turns out it was the personalized M&M maker. We had to wait in a line for about 15 minutes for a computer. Then you got to make 4 different designs. He did an Antonio, Vacation 2015, Darth Vader icon, and a Las Vegas icon. I paid for all our goodies and Halie a popsicle she really wanted (and took one bite and said she hated) then realized I hadn't used the 15% off coupon I was handed while out on the strip. The lady rerang things and gave me the 15% off, but I'm pretty sure she did it wrong because I should have saved more. We gave another coupon to the nice couple behind us who were debating getting their kids the adorable yet expensive M&M pajamas.

After M&Ms World, I was so done and ready to go to the hotel and nap or swim. On our way, Halie saw a souvenir shop and needed to do some shopping. Antonio got a fan sprayer which came in very handy when it worked. We decided at this point to split up and Quentin and Halie would go to New York New York and ride the roller coaster while Antonio and I went to Excalibur to play the carnival games that he wouldn't stop talking about all day. Why I told him about this in advance, I have no idea. Big mistake.

IMG_6766.jpg

We saw these hot cops after M&M World.

On our way to Excalibur, Antonio and I went through the Hershey's store in New York New York, which was pathetic compared to M&M World.

IMG_2660.jpg

Finally, Antonio was on his way to the big castle to play games! One of his favorite parts of the whole trip, was the moving walkway that led in to the hotel. He talked about it the rest of the trip.

IMG_2661.jpg
IMG_2662.jpg
IMG_2663.jpg
IMG_2664.jpg

Antonio and I got back to the room first and rested for a bit. I was so tired, hot, and my feet were killing me. When Quentin and Halie arrived, we decided to go swimming. Well, the kids and I did. Quentin went gambling. Unfortunately, the sun was behind the hotel at this point so Halie and I didn't really want to swim. Antonio had a great time and made friends. It helped that he had a ball that he won at the Excalibur midway.

After swimming the kids had to spend quality time on with their phones.

IMG_2665.jpg
IMG_2572.jpg

After swimming for about an hour, we went back to the room to change and head out to dinner.

IMG_2666.jpg

I had this grand idea that we should eat on Fremont Street at the Heart Attack Grill. We took the monorail to Harrahs and walked over to the Venetian to see the gondolas. I wanted to take Antonio on them, but nobody else was interested.

IMG_2667.jpg
IMG_2668.jpg
IMG_2670.jpg
IMG_2672.jpg
IMG_2673.jpg

Then we walked over to Treasure Island to see the pirate ship.

IMG_2675.jpg
IMG_2677.jpg
IMG_2678.jpg
IMG_2679.jpg
IMG_2680.jpg
IMG_2681.jpg

Our feet were killing us (not Quentin and his marshmallow shoes), so after that we got a taxi to take us to the restaurant. Getting to a taxi was a pain in the butt. We had to walk over to a mall, then there were no taxis. Just when Mommy meltdown was starting, a taxi drove up. Thank God!

He dropped us off right across from the restaurant. As we walked over there, we saw showgirls wearing nothing but pasties. That was new to Quentin and I! We had seen showgirls out before to take pictures, but not practically naked ones. Oh well, Vegas is crazy. Fremont Street is definitely a lot crazier than it used to be.

We went to the Heart Attack Grill and put on our hospital gowns. The kids were really tired by this point and we probably shouldn't have gone here. We got them both a slushie hoping to wake them up. Halie didn't like it because it was not like a Sonic slush. Antonio was practically falling asleep and didn't eat or drink much. They did enjoy watching people get spanked by the nurses.

IMG_2686.jpg
IMG_2694.jpg

If you weigh over 350 lbs, you get to eat for free. Antonio was a bit short.

IMG_2688.jpg

We also bought the kids some candy cigarettes like we used to have when we were kids. Yeah, we are bad influences sometimes. Halie looks like a pothead with hers.

IMG_2689.jpg
IMG_2690.jpg
IMG_2691.jpg

Halie wanted a slushie, but then hated it because it didn’t taste like Sonic. Our little Princess.

IMG_2693.jpg
IMG_2692.jpg

They also don’t provide ice water. You have to buy a bottle. Then you can get a cup of ice to pour your bottle in. Dumb.

IMG_2695.jpg

We had onion rings- delicious, fries- okay, burgers- yummy! The restaurant is a really clever theme, we had just shoved too much in to one day and weren't in the right mindset to really enjoy it. Antonio had a freakout at the end because he wanted Quentin to be spanked and then he would do it. He wanted Q to go first though. Quentin had no interest. I had to drag the poor kid out of there crying. He was worried that they would spank hard which is why he wanted Q to try it out. There was one nurse who would spank so hard it would make the whole restaurant cringe.

When we left Fremont Street was an absolute freak show and crazy loud due to a band playing right across the way. Halie and Antonio liked the street performers, but we were all tired and ready to go. We walked through a hotel to find a taxi. When we asked the valet, they directed us to a car service. That made Quentin happy. I screwed it up though by telling them that Q owns a limo company. He told me later that he doesn't want to tell people that because he wants to ask them questions about their company, and once he tells them he owns a company, they bombard him with questions.

The car was very nice and Antonio passed out immediately. Halie was super sweet and held his head while he slept.

We got back our hotel and passed out!

We made our way over to the breakfast. The food was delicious! They had premade cheese omelettes, cinnamon rolls, a pancake machine, and all the other standard hotel breakfast food.

The kids saw a sign that said beware of poisonous insects and snakes and immediately went over to check it out. Goofballs!

Halie signing us in.

IMG_5075.jpg

Down the road from the welcome center were some Native American shops. We bought postcards and magnets. Halie bought a Native America made in China blanket.

IMG_5078.jpg

They also collected some sand in a little baggie since it was so fine. Antonio earned another prize about an hour and a half away from the Grand Canyon. It was a cute little craft. He wanted my help, so to Halie’s dismay, I climbed in the backseat to work on it with him. Halie got a craft too.

By 5:00 we were at the Grand Canyon. We had decided to visit the South Rim Visitor Center. We were able to get a great view from there. Halie was stressing me out by stepping off the path to stand on rocks. Antonio would then want to step off the path. I was scared most of the time we were there!

We then took a shuttle bus over to the Observatory and got a different perspective of the canyon. We bought some postcards and magnets. Antonio bought a book about animals pooping in the Grand Canyon. Then we took the bus back to the visitor center.

We saw this spider in the observatory. The kids were very interested in it.

It was a very different view from the visitor center and less crowded.

IMG_5123.jpg

We made it to Las Vegas around midnight. As we rolled in to town we blasted Viva Las Vegas! Quentin and I had never driven there before, only flown so it was a neat perspective. We were staying at the Hooter's Hotel and Casino. We had gotten a great rate online of only $25 a night. Too bad when we went to pay it pretty much doubled with resort fees and taxes. I'm not sure what resort fees they are charging for, it wasn't a very nice "resort."

Our room was in the beach tower. It had a nice view of the pool. Antonio went straight to sleep and Halie went straight to a charger for her cell phone. Quentin and I decided to go down and gamble a bit. I played some craps, then we played blackjack. I stayed even. Quentin won like $60. We only stayed down there about an hour because we were so sleepy.
